Who we are...

We are community based trainers working in a variety of settings who share a belief in the Drum Training Principles.

We meet together for regular peer support and are always interested in looking at new ways to take this work forward.

At the moment we are exploring using Drum Training models to develop community cohesion work and personal development work.

To give you an idea of the breadth of experience as well as delivering Training for Drum we have pleasure in introducing to the Drum Team.

Drum Diversity Trainers

Dr Jon Atkin

Jon Atkin who, because of his skills at administration as well as training, is known to us as 'The Incredible Hub'. Every organisation should have one! Jon has been delivering our Anti-Bullying work, which has been under the auspices of Manchester Anti-Bullying Partnership. He is also a trainer for counsellors on a charity Helpline and is currently the Chair of George House Trust, an HIV and AIDS support charity in Manchester.

Pam Campbell

Pam Campbell whose friends have named her ’20 questions Pam’ because of her fascination with people, is a trained Person Centered counsellor. She has experience of Victim Support work which includes Domestic Violence and Rape. Pam is helping to develop the Community Cohesion side of our work.

Susan Caroline

Susan Caroline embodies Diversity in the variety of settings in which she has worked. Susan originally trained as a Nurse and went on to take a Masters in Health Promotion. She has also worked as a trainer within Social Services, Rape Crisis, Health Promotion and Education. Susan is currently a school governor and is helping to develop our anti-bullying work.

Gary Hennessey

Gary Hennessey has 20 years experience as a meditation teacher and is currently helping to run training in severe pain management for people with chronic and long term health conditions. He is involved in the personal development side of Drum’s work.

Jonathan Mayor

Jonathan Mayor is responsible for most of our police based training. He is getting to the stage where he recognises previous participants in uniform on the streets of Manchester! Jonathan has worked in local government and for the Third sector. He has a unique training style, which helps to create a relaxed atmosphere, due to his other incarnation as a Stand up comedian and compere at many venues around the North West.

Carol Muter

Carol Muter is what she describes as a Baby Boomer, part of the ‘have it all’ generation. This means she is very good at juggling everything! She is trained in HR and a member of the CIPD. She has extensive experience of training on issues of Serious Crime particularly Rape and Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence and bereavement due to Murder/ Manslaughter. She also delivers Child protection training.

Mary Synott

Mary Synott is the Founder of Drum Diversity. For Mary, Drum has been the coming together of 25 years of training work. She has roots within the early days of Peace Education in the 80’s. Her interest in developing practical skills to build community led to her work with Conflict Resolution / Management and Mediation and Negotiation Training. She also has extensive experience of assertiveness and confidence building work. Over the years she has worked with many ‘Hard to Reach’ groups both within the Statutory and Third Sectors. The highlight of her work so far has been winning a NW Region National Training Award for her Diversity Training.
